I was recently in India visiting an orphanage and the missionaries told me they wanted to make a video about their ministry, so I asked them what it would be about. They responded with several topics they wanted to cover.

So I suggest that they tell their story through the eyes of one of their resident children, or perhaps the dorm parents of that particular group of kids. Because topics are best told through the experiences of people they affect.

Someone has said that tension is the basis of attention. You may have a great ministry where you are, but there are always tensions when the gospel of Christ comes up against the demands of other, opposing religious doctrines. Even when working with children. That’s why stories are so powerful. I’ve been doing some work with a prison ministry. The best stories told about prison ministries are told by the prisoners themselves.

And the digital age has brought the opportunity to bring those stories to your mission partners with increasing ease. Yet there is still the need to tell those stories effectively, and in a compelling manner.

That’s what this blog is all about. It is based on my earlier work, The Toolbox for Video Storytelling. Many of the principles found there still apply. But the technology has changed to allow new delivery platforms.

Let me know what you think. It will be an evolving process as new ideas are shared. So lets get started.

This presentation will be divided into six parts, each dealing with a different part of the production process. In the next few blog entries I’ll present an overview. Each part goes into much more detail. Or, you can just jump to each section in the column to the top-right.
